Fortunately, I soon came into contact with Den Hartog Rietdekkers – a family business, now a third- or perhaps even fourth-generation craftsman – and that turned out to be the best decision I've ever made in construction. The way these brothers approach their work is admirable: they don't use standard materials, but handmade, custom-made tools. Every detail is perfect. From the initial advice about which type of thatch is most suitable for the project to the execution: everything is well-thought-out, thorough, and done with a passion for the craft. Their pricing was fair and transparent, their communication friendly and professional, and the workmanship truly unparalleled. Where the construction world is often rough and fast, they bring peace, craftsmanship, and dedication. Now, fifteen years later, the roof – partly due to a lack of maintenance by an interim owner – needed a lot of overdue work. I immediately contacted Den Hartog again, and once again, they didn't disappoint. They completely reworked the roof and introduced an innovative solution for the ridge: no more brickwork, but a beautifully finished synthetic version. We asked Den Hartog to replace our thatched roof. They requested that the demolition work, insulation and plating be carried out as well as the replacement of an existing one and the installation of a new dormer window. They thought along well and delivered the work promptly.
