We are very disappointed in Morren and strongly advise against doing business with this thatcher. In February 2023, Edwin Morren came by to make a quote for insulating and covering our roof (99m2). Although Morren was not the cheapest, Edwin came across as a friendly and reliable party. After this moment things went completely wrong. - The work started on June 15 and lasted a total of 3 months(!). That is less than 7m2 PER WEEK; - The workers turned out to be mainly migrant workers from Eastern Europe, spoke not a word of Dutch and hardly any English - communication was in fact impossible; - The workers came and went as they pleased. The agreement with Morren to let them know when people were coming was not kept. Despite nice weather, we didn't see anyone or hear from Morren for days in a row. Sometimes there was suddenly 1 male and sometimes 4; - The work is very careless and messy. During the entire summer period, our garden and the street were full of reeds, cigarette butts, metal and waste. There were mountains of loose reeds around the house for 3 months; - The roof has been covered for weeks with flapping tarpaulins that have seriously disturbed our night's sleep; - Holes have appeared in the plasterwork (this can happen), but a hole of more than 10x10 cm does not just occur and has not been reported; - Insulation material was installed (almost) contrary to factory instructions, namely without air chamber and tightly on the planks; - During the work, screws were screwed into the roof edge (unnecessarily and without consultation) and (old) nails came through - these were knocked back and roughly and carelessly sealed with filler. Paint has not been restored; - In front of the door and without consultation or permit, a mobile toilet completely blocked the public footpath for 3.5 months. By agreement, people could simply use our toilet; Morren managed to report that he had 'matured' us by not passing on the costs of this Dixi to us - bizarre! Naturally, we discussed our great disappointment with Morren. The response was that “his men had suddenly run away to the competitor”. This had already happened before they started work with us and in addition; staff don't just walk away. This also does not explain the poor planning/preparation, poor communication, messy and careless execution and damage caused. In short – a very disappointing first and last experience with this thatcher for us.

After requesting quotes and advice from several thatching companies about replacing or reconditioning our thatched roof, we ended up with Morren. While other thatchers wanted to replace it immediately, Morren provided a fair quote and neatly re-erected our roof. Replacement proved unnecessary; it wasn't even close to that point. Now we have a neat roof again, and the staff are very friendly! Our roof looks as good as new and will last at least another 10 years, even though it's only 27 years old. Excellent work, very happy with it!

Morren installed the thatched roof about 8 years ago and carries out minor maintenance annually to keep it looking great - these are real professionals! In addition, they always keep their agreements :-)
